Brief Description: Engine Rear Housing Installed and Removed
Well the big day finally arrived. After months of waiting, I was able to install the engine rear housing and rear seal. I did a fair amount of research on the best gasket prep technique and bolt torque values. In short, I was ready to get this engine bolted together. In a little over one hour, the task was complete as you see it in the picture. Approximately three hours later I was perusing the Clark's Corvair Parts catalog, looking at an exploded view of the engine when I noticed something that made my heart sink. I had installed the rear seal backwards. Instead of pressing it in from the outside, I pressed it out from inside the part. Sooo, at 9:30pm I was back in the garage cleaning off the old gasket material to prepare for re-installation once the replacement arrives. Two steps forward, two steps back. At least I know what to expect next time!
