Brief Description:  My plane on gear!

First of all, let me say that I am super impressed with the Grove gear, wheels, brakes and hardware that I purchased for this project. As a promotional item for supporting the Matronics list, I had a copy of the "601XL Quick Build Tips" DVD from HomeBuiltHelp.com. It has come in handy on this phase of my project, but my experience quickly departed from what they described when it came to mounting the axles and brakes. For folks with Zenith gear, you are required to drill your own mounting holes for the axle, but Grove's come precision drilled. Quick and easy to attach. Also, with the Zenith gear you have to file away chunks of the side of the gear leg to allow the brake cylinders to fit and move freely. Again, this was engineered from the factory to need no such clean up. For both of these facts I was very grateful. That would have added hours and no small amount of frustration. Everything mounted as described and the plane rolls freely. Yeah! Now I just need to get my engine complete enough to put on the front, so it isn't tail heavy.
