Brief Description:  Drilled and painted new lower engine mount fitting

The gap in my building log is because of a 7-day trip to Kauai that our family took. We returned just in time for Easter and a little relaxation before the work week. Starting last night, I drilled out the 3/8" holes in the two lower engine mount fittings (after super careful placement). Tonight I temporarily bolted the engine mount to the firewall to insure perfect alignment of the back end of the fitting before drilling through the lower longerons and cabin floor. Once I tightened down the engine mount bolts all around, the lower fittings were rigid and easy to drill from below. NOTE: In comparing these fittings to the ones I got from ZAC originally, I noticed that the new ones were approximately 5mm taller on the front flange. This is the area where I had trouble with edge distances the first time. I called the factory today and Caleb confirmed that they had increased the height of the front flange because too many builders were having to replace them. I guess I was part of a good sized club. According to Caleb the new plans should show that dimension, by my first edition 650 plans do not. They are still 20mm on that flange. If you are scratch building, take note and make them 25mm high in front.
