Brief Description:  Reason for remaking the attach plates

Unless you are die-hard builder, you might want to skip this post. It chronicles problems that are unique to my installation due to the use of CNC parts from Tom Henderson. For some time I have been aware that the geometry on my rear frame channel (6-B-5-2) was off because of a mounting location slightly forward of where it should go. Because the bottom skin was predrilled for this part, I could not make enough adjustments on installation of the channel to fix the problem. Tonight when I re-inserted the wing jigs to test and set the angle, I learned that several things were wrong with my attach plates (6-B-5-4) on the rear channel, especially if I had any hope of correcting the channel geometry. Here are the issues. (1) the attach plates provided by Tom are bent too far (8 degrees instead of the 3 degrees specified), (2) the plates need to be attached to the back side of the channel to push the channel into a more upright position, and (3) on my first installation I did not place the attach plates far enough outboard to place the bend in line with the side skins. This last item became apparent as I was test fitting the upright channels (6-B-5-6). So, in order to fix all of that, I will be remaking my attach plates that will be thicker and longer, with the intention of placing them on the back side of the channel. This orientation was previously cleared with Roger at ZAC. The parts will be longer to pick up the existing holes in the rear channel and still maintain edge distance. Finally the parts will be made from .090" aluminum, not the .063" in the 601XL plans. Since the 650 now uses .125" aluminum here, I thought I'd split the difference for additional strength at this critical location. Tonight was all studying plans and measuring. No fabrication of parts took place.
