Brief Description: Installed wing root fairings & finished extra latc
When I was trimming my wing skins at the time of wing installation, I was more concerned about getting clearance than about maintaining a small, precise gap. As a result, by rubber wing root fairing material was unacceptably loose when I tried putting it in place. My solution was to make a pattern of the outline of the fuselage (where it meets the wing), then to cut 0.20" aluminum to match. After sliding the rubber fairing over the edge, I was able to mark the ouline of the fairing on the metal. Next I predrilled #40 holes in the aluminum, placed the metal in the optimal location to maintain a 4-6 mm gap for the fairing, drilled through to the wing skin, enlarged all holes to #20, cut out the thin strip and finally put the strip into the fairings and riveted the whole thing in place. Works beautifully. I also wrapped up my installation of the secondary latch by adding a stop ball on the line. I then finished off both ends using a flame to melt the nylon.
