Brief Description:  Engine shroud and more adjustments

My hope today was to build an engine shroud for ground run cooling and then time the engine. The biggest piece of aluminum I had was a polished wing skin that had been dented while the assembled wings were in storage. I was told by William Wynne that the opening dimensions were 22" wide by any dimension that cleared the starter. I made mine roughly 7" high. I pulled the #1 spark plug and determined TDC and aligned the timing mark, set the timing to 8 degrees before top dead center and confirmed that the engine would start. It did, but again only on the points side. Knowing that my ultimate goal was to time the electronic side so I could later match that points side to it, I started on points and switched to electronic. I set the timing at full advance to 32 degrees. As expected, the static timing was around 11 degrees since this particular distributor advances 21 degrees. At that point, I still couldn't start it on the electronic side so I have more homework to do. I thought I would start my extended ground run, only to find that the CHTs were moving quickly toward 400 degrees, so I shut it down for the night. More fun issues to work out in the light of day. This week I have my board retreat so I won't be able to get back to the project until the weekend, at the earliest. No updates are likely for a few days.
