Brief Description:  First engine start on airframe

No pictures, but a positive report. Finally I have been able to bring fuel, air and a high-energy spark together at the right time to power an aircraft engine. In the process of engine installation, I had turned the distributor just enough that it was too far out of static timing to turn over. I asked an A&P in a nearby hangar for help and he brought things back into range and voila -- it turned over in short order. It ran strong for about 6 or 7 minutes and then my CHTs began moving toward 400 degrees which was my cutoff. Not surprising since I was running it with my nosebowl and cowling and not an engine cooling shroud. The disappointing development is that the mechanic felt that the points needed to be gapped differently. According the William Wynne, who set up the points/electronic ignition system, the points and Crane electronic unit are in perfect alignment when it leaves his shop. So now I need to time the engine on the electronic side (as my reference) and then adjust the points side so it matches. An unfortunate but fixable situation. As we left things, the engine starts easily on the points system, but not on the electronic side. I can switch from points to electronic ignition while it is running, but just can't start there. More later.
