Brief Description:  Consulted with Zenith on wing spar issues

I spoke with Roger at Zenith today about my problem with the center spar opening being too small to accept the main spars. His solution is exactly what I had concluded would need to happen. I will be removing the front side skins and using them as templates for all the holes except the rear wing uprights. My problem, as shared by some other builders, is that I pushed in on the rear wing upright when drilling, producing a clamping action that closed off the opening by a couple of millimeters. Not good. This time I will put 17mm shims in the top and bottom channels as I attach the rear upright, insuring that I will have sufficient space to insert the wings next time. My wing spars also measured slightly over 17mm and he suggested hand polishing the spar caps with Scotchbrite to slightly reduce their thickness. While I am at it, I'm putting in the newest revised parts from Zenith. Even since my original plans, they have increased the thickness of the front wing upright from .063" to 1/8". I expect this job will take at least a full, long weekend at the hangar.
