Brief Description:  Mounting brackets for main wheel fairings

Before moving my project to the hangar, I made a last minute decision to install wheel fairings on my plane. My order from Zenith arrived yesterday and I wanted to dive in quickly. The biggest job is mounting the attachment brackets. The process requires removing the wheel and axle, so I had Joy help me put saw horses under the main gear (under the cabin area) to make that possible. Both the rolled inboard and bent outboard attachment brackets are of 4130 steel so they are harder on drill bits and don't yield like aluminum. The inboard attachment bracket has to have the four hole pattern of the axle to gear bolts and it is sandwiched between them. The real fun job is prepping for the outboard bracket. You must tap two 10-32 holes in each axle to allow you to bolt on the bracket. The pilot hole is #21 size and I used a flat tap because they were blind holes. They came out perfectly. Tomorrow I tackle fitting and attaching the fiberglass fairings.
