Brief Description:  Passed Sport Pilot Practical Test

My long hiatus from building officially ended today when I passed my practical test for the Sport Pilot rating. This journey started with my first solo in 1969 (on my 16th birthday) at the Akron-Canton airport in Ohio. Shortly thereafter life and lack of finances put an end to my flying...but not the dream. Fast forward to 2003 and I picked up instruction at Fullerton (KFUL) where I was on the verge of my practical test and I got an uneasy feeling that I wasn't ready. A year later I picked up instruction at John Wayne Airport (KSNA) in Class C traffic, and I loved it. This time my practical test was scheduled within days of the expiration of my medical and knowledge test. Sickness on the day of my practical kept me from flying, and that's when I decided to turn my attention to homebuilding my own airplane. Fast forward to 9/29/2012 (one day before the expiration of my Sport Pilot knowledge test!), and I passed my Sport Pilot practical test with Matt Liknaitzky as my Designated Pilot Examiner. If that name is familiar, it's because Matt is the U.S. rep/guru for MGL Avionics (the maker of virtually all the avionics in my cockpit). It was a picture perfect day and I couldn't be happier to have this behind me. Now I can return my attention to the shop so I can complete and fly N819P -- hopefully sometime in the next few months. Thanks to Dave and William for the special encouragement on the home stretch!
