Today I got very familiar with Tinnerman U clips. Handy little devices to screw together a cowling. My wrap up session was mainly spent riveting the upper and lower cowling panels to the top and bottom panel hinges, and placing a bunch of Tinnerman U clips for rigid installation. The final step was to take it all apart, remove the wood jig from the prop hub and reassemble the whole cowling. It is remarkable how rigid the cowling is, even though it is in many ways free-floating. Certainly up around the engine, it doesn't touch or gain support anywhere. And yet, it is strong enough that you can pull the airplane by grabbing onto the air inlets on the front. Another big step completed!
