Brief Description:  Positioned nosebowl

Tonight I prepped and positioned my nosebowl in anticipation of fitting the cowling next. You start with the nosebowl suspended in front of the airplane, so to speak, then you work back. That is accomplished using a spacing ring made of plywood as specified by William Wynne. I was fortunate enough to be able to borrow Rich Vetterli's spacing ring which he signed in 2009. Mine will be signed in 2011 as soon as the cowling is secure and the ring is no longer needed. Thanks, Rich! When I first mounted the nosebowl, it was hard to turn and it seemed to have a bump in the front top. Using my camera, I was able to see the problem (as shown in picture 3 below). I had neglected to file down the excess length on my starter support arm, so it was making contact with the nosebowl. Ooops. Off it all came, I ground the part down, and re-mounted the nosebowl and all was fine. The last step was leveling, which had to be done relative to the side-to-side gentle slope of my garage floor. I measured the floor slope, equally inflated my main gear tires, duplicated the slight angle on the nosebowl and everything looks great. Oh, by the way, my reason for not working on the project for the last two weeks was family vacation in Maui. Glad to be back and making progress!
