Brief Description: Made cover for canopy hinge gap - right side
Sleeping on problems often results in new and better options. I was thinking I might have to remake the forward top skin which would have been a major undertaking. I woke up this morning with the idea of creating a patch large enough to catch all the adjacent rivets into the firewall flange but that would blend in cosmetically. After a bit of experimentation with paper templates, I crafted this simple piece, gave it a slight crease to widen the opening for the canopy hinge, and used a hole finder to locate and drill the necessary holes. It works really well, and covers the most unsightly part of my project to date. I predict that once the cowling it attached and everything in this area is polished, this part will blend in beautifully. Now I just need to make the same part for the left side of the plane.
