Brief Description: Removed main gear to enlarge brake line ports
Before I first installed the main gear, I knew that I needed to have holes above it in the channel in order to tap into the brake line ports. I drilled holes that were roughly 3/4" in diameter, but discovered after installation that the hole was too small to provide access for a wrench to tighten the fittings. While I had the center spar out, I decided this was the best time to fix my miscalculation. Before I lifted the airframe, I decided to cleco in all the parts I had removed during the spar project. Then I lifted the tail while Joy slid in the saw horse. From there it was just a matter of patiently removing the four nuts, lowering the gear to the ground, opening the holes up to 1-3/8" and replacing the gear. Now the path is clear for me to install the brake lines.
