Brief Description: Dimpleing VS and working on Rudder
|
|
Began the day finishing updrilling the Vertical Stabilizer skin, and any remaining pilot holes on the frame.
Then deburred, scuffed, and dimpled the Vertical Stabilizer. At this point I decided to set it aside for now, and finish the Rudder assembley.
Unfortunatly, I had a really hard time getting good pilot holes drilled on the first few holes I tried. The back skin didn't have any backing, so I couldn't put much pressure on the bit. The bit was apparently defective as well. It wanted to walk sideways instead of drilling. It almost caused me to botch a hole entirely, and I might install a larger rivet in its place. Anyway, I spent over an hour fabricating a piece of wood and a way to clamp it inside the rudder, to act as a firm backing for drilling. I also got a new #40 drill bit, which is probably the only thing I needed to do in hindsight.
I had hoped to get the rudder assembly finished today, but as least what I did get done is done right.
