Very busy day today:
Started deburring, scuffing, and dimpling left Horizontal Stabilizer. Dimpling one side fo the Horizontal stabilizer, and all its associated ribs took my about 2.5 hours using a dimple die that works with a hand riveter. Not too bad, sometimes I like a little mindless repitition; especially when it yeilds results.
Then I moved right into acetone cleaning, and etching with alumiprep. When parts finished drying, I started priming. I worked on the right Horizontal stabilizer parts first so I wouldn't mix the parts when the acetone removed my markings.
While the primer dried on theHorizontal Stabilizer parts, I started working on the Vertical stabilizer. I had assembled the frame during winter, but since it was too cold outside to prime, I disassembled and stored it until now.
After reassembling the Vertical Stabilizer frame with clecos, I did the temporary skinning, so I could pilot drill, then updrill to the pre-flush-rivet hole size of #33. I had a hard time getting the Horizontal Stabilizer to align with the ribs due to the stress from bending the skin around the frame. I had seen other builders instead, let one side hang off the front of the table, while fitting the skin. This worked out really well. I won't say it's a perfect fit, but very close. I'm very happy with the result.
