Brief Description:  More Dimpling and Riveting Practice

I've been researching flush riveting the Sonex some more, and saw that Sonex recommends updrilling with a #32 bit, then dimpling. The dimpling process is supposed to stretch the hole to approx a #30, which is the usual size that you'd use for a 1/8" rivet.

I found that using the nail that Sonex supplied works much better than the box of 6d nails I bought. The 6d allows there to be too much play in the #32 hole, and ends up making lopsided holes. I think the Sonex supplied nail is an 8d finish nail.

I had pretty good results. Though I'm still having a problem with protruding stems, even though I used a hand operated riveter.

I can't help but wonder if a #33 or #34 drill bit would fit a little tighter to the rivet and prevent stem protrusion. There is one way to find out, and the bits are cheap!

I'm getting pretty confident about the dimpliing and riveting, but I think a little more experimentation will be worth the effort.
