Brief Description: Horizonal Stabilizer frame
|
|
Well, I'm getting closer to having something that looks like an airfoil. I have to admit, that I didn't expect to work on this frame for 5 hours today, and still have some finishing touches to do. But, hey, time flies when you're having fun.
The frame went together pretty well. A few of the rivet holes are closer to the metal edge than I'd prefer, but I don't think it's going to be an issue. I might take a picture, or call sonex to verify, but I think that the main strength is going to be the 300 or so rivets that hold the skin on the frame.
So, as long as the pre-drilled skin holes are lined up in the middle of all the frame flanges, I should have a very strong horizontal stabilizer. Hmm, come to think of it, I should have drawn the typical blue line on each of the rib, and spar flanges. That way I'll be able to tell if the flanges are lined up with the ribs....oh well, that would have helped today as well, one of the misaligned rivets wouldn't be a concern at all...
I wright software for a living, so I'm accustom to being able to hit the undo button and try again. I think that this project is helping me slow down and think things through before simply trying something.
