Success on second try!

Long story short; I messed up the lazer cut Forward Spar Fitting that came with the kit. I did't have a big enough mallet to be successful with the hardwood method. Not wanting to pay for another one, and potentially messing that one up as well, I decided to buy a 1'X1' piece of aluminum. This way, for $20 I'd have enough material to make another mistake without spending a lot of money. I also bought a foot of 1 inch diameter steel rod.

I spend quite some time cutting out the piece because I don't yet have a band saw. I estimate that alone added a couple hours to the job because I didn't want to get too close to the marker line with the hack saw, or reciprocating saw. This made for a lot of filing.

You can see from the picture I don't have a press yet either. I was going to wait, but decided that as long as I could see where the bend was occuring, I could either complete the bend, or stop until I got a press. As is turned out, the part came out looking great first try.

For the record, I would highly recommend getting a press. Also, re-read the bending metal pdf that Sonex has on thier website. I had read it months ago, but got over confident with my bending method.
