Brief Description:  Lessons Learned

Today I only got 3 parts made in 5 hours. Not because I was working slowly. Unfortunately I've been making more than my fair share of mistakes. A couple days ago I started to work on part T10-03, but cut the stock exactly an inch short. Why exactly? Because in an effort to be accurate, I started measueing from the 1 inch mark, so any variation on the ruler's edge would not effect my measurement. Well, the part was supposed to be 18 inches but I forgot to add an additional inch for the my ruler offset, so I ended up with a part too short. This mistake required that I order some more material because I hade no more stock that was long enough.

So today I decided that I'd use the router to cut the sides of the some ribs. I was able to make part T10-03 very accurately. So I decided that I'd use the root rib (part T10-01) to make part T10-02, since the root rib is very easy to make, one cut, and no bends. I measured T10-02 as carefully as I could, and proceeded to use the router again. This time the router grabbed the part and cut the side way too far -- this part was ruined. Lesson learned: I'm not using the router for this purpose again.

After a lunch break, I decided to try to remake part T04-04 that I had make a couple month ago (I wasn't happy with the accuacy). I won't bother with too much detail, but I assumed that one of the measurements was the same as the previous part I was making it from -- add this to the scrap pile.

Again I decided to remake T04-04. This time I slowed way down, carefully made the measurements, and used the drill press and snips. Finally success.

Lastly, I decided to finish up page T07, by completing the Elevator Half Hinge (T07-08). This went well.
