I admit to be guessing a bit here but the way the oil cooler mounting plate is designed makes me believe that the incoming air is supposed to go through the oil cooler. BUT - the back side of the mounting plate is open so it likewise seems to me that oil cooling will be improved if the rear exit is blocked off and then force the air down and thru the oil cooler.
