Decided to "bite-the-bullet" and finalize my own design for the door latch. I want to latch the door fore and aft, as opposed to just in the center, and, minimize intrusion of the hardware into the passenger compartment.
I'm still not done with the pilot's side as it has taken 3 iterations to get the fit the way I think it should be - it turns out that due to the rubber seal, what happens at the front (when compressing the seal) has some affect to the dimensions at the rear, and vice-a-versa.
