Brief Description: Mounted VHF Radio in Instrument Panel
Reviewed the location for the radio on the instrument panel. Positioned the instrument template on the panel and drilled the center hole. Attached the template to the panel with a cleo. Leveled the template and drilled the top left mounting hole. Installed a second cleo in the mounting hole. Drilled the three remaining mounting holes. Used the step-drill to enlarge the center hole to fit the hole punch. Mounted the hole punch on the instrument panel with the 58 mm punch in place. Used two adjustment wrenches to tighten the mounting bolt on the punch. Tighten the bolt until the punch cut the hole in the instrument panel. Removed the hole punch from the instrument panel and set it aside. Placed the radio in the hole and checked the mounting holes for alignment. The mounting holes from the template were not correctly aligned with the radio. Drilled out the mounting points to attempt correct alignment. The alignment was completed after three tries and the radio was mounted to the panel with four screws provided with the radio. The antenna cable was connected to the back of the radio. The cable was secured to the throttle cable at several locations along the left side of the cockpit.
