Brief Description:  Tail Light and Beacon Wiring

Cut a half moon segment from a sheet of .025 aluminum about 2 1/2 inch long. Sanded all the edges smooth. Drilled a 9/16 inch hole center in the top center area of the sheet. Drilled a 1/8 hole in the right side of the tail wheel cross bracket and in the aluminum sheet. Mounted the bracket to the tail wheel cross bracket with a cleo. Aligned the aluminum sheet so that the center hole is 3/16 inch above the cross bracket and drilled a 1/8 inch hole through both the cross bracket and the aluminum sheet. Installed a pop rivet in both 1/8 inch holes to secure the bracket to the tail wheel cross bracket to serve as a mount for the tail light plug.

Finished the standoff connections on the right side tube leading to the instrument panel. Installed a 3/16 ID tube along the right side from the tail area to a junction with the larger tube leading to the instrument panel. A standoff zip tie was installed about every 12 inches. Inserted the 3 wire bundle into the tube to the tail and completed the routing to a tie off at the plug mounting bracket. Ran the other end of the tail light wire through the 3/16 inch tube to the back of the instrument panel.

Inserted a 2 wire red bundle into the right side tube and routed it to the opening for the beacon. Installed a two connector plug onto the end of the 2 wire using heat - shrink splices. Installed two zip tie standoffs and secured the beacon wire to each of the standoffs. Installed the other half of the 2 wire plug on to the beacon assembly using a heat-shrink splice on the power wire. Installed a crimp terminal on the ground wire which is to be connected to the case of the beacon.

Removed the key switch assembly from the instrument and unplug it from the two ground wires. Installed a new key switch into the opening which captures the key when turned on. The replacement ground wires will have to be constructed during the next work day.
