Brief Description:  Scavenge Pump Engine Test Run

Checked the engine over for any loose connections. Added another gallon go gas to the fuel tank. Turned the engine through 8 blades and removed the oil catch can from the intake taps. Rolled the aircraft out of the hanger and strapped the tail to the fire hydrant. Climbed into the cockpit and turned on the electric fuel pump. Primed the carburetor for 2 seconds. Turned off the fuel pump and engaged the starter for 4 blades. Turned on the ignition switches and set the throttle about 1/4 inch open. Started the engine and set the rpm at 900. Turned on the electric scavenge pump. Ran the engine at 900 rpm for about 5 minutes. Brought the rpm up to 1400 and held it there for another 5 minuets. Turned off the electric scavenge pump. Oil system is performing as required. Brought the engine up to 2000 rpm and held it there for about 5 minutes. Noted the CHT at 133 C and the EGT at 450 C. Oil pressure held at 40 Kpa. Oil temp gage did not indicate any temp during the entire run. Maybe an issue that will require further checking. Felt the oil tank for the temperature and found it warm but not hot. Brought the engine to full power at 2800 rpm and held it there for about two minutes. Indications that the fuel mixture was too rich as there was some black smoke coming from the stacks. Brought the rpm back down to 1400 and let the engine stabilize. Turned on the electric scavenge pump and left it on until shutdown. Closed the value on the oil accumulator. Pulled the throttle back to full idle at about 200 rpm. Turned off the left ignition switch and the engine continued to run. Turned off the right ignition switch for full shut down. Left the electric scavenge pump run until indications that the sump was dry and then shut it down. There was only trace of oil on the filler cap maybe due to foaming under full power.

Checked out the patch along the cockpit to run a wiring tube to the instrument panel. Tried the left side but there was not clearance by the left master brake cylinder. Tried the right
