Brief Description:  Oil Tank Mounting Bracket and Carb Air Filter

Test fitted the oil tank and found that the lower outlet fitting extended too low in the fuselage. The mounting band was using the firewall cross-brace as it main support for the oil tank. This allowed the tank to tilt forward and extended the outlet fitting too far down to clear the belly pan. The tank was removed and a mounting plate was designed from a 3/4 by 1/8 inch steel plate between the bottom firewall brace and the cross-brace. Now the tank had a vertical support member for the clamp to hold the tank in place. However now the tank clamp was too long to grip the tank tightly. The clamp was cut and 3/4 inch removed and rewelded back together. This provided a tight fit and held the tank in proper position. The tank was again removed and the bracket was painted black to match the fuselage.

The mounting of the electric scavenge pump has been reviewed at some length. A position behind the firewall was selected. A mounted bracket was measured at the desired location and cut from a 3/4 by 1/8 steel plate. This plate was then welded between the lower firewall brace and the bottom cross-brace of the fuselage. The pump will be mounted on top of the plate and held in place with a T-clamp. Reference Image 1.

Mounted the front plate of the air filter to the oil cooler and carburetor. Modified the attachment bolts on the aft plate of the air filter by adding a nut on the inside to hold the bolts in place and parallel to the plate. Slid from the bottom the air filter and bottom plate up in position and mounted the plates together with the nylon wing nuts. Checked the configuration for clearance between the hoses in the area and the firewall. Reference Image 2.
