Brief Description: Oil Tank Fittings & Battery Box Construction
Installed tank fitting using Teflon tape on all connections available except the top main plug. The top fitting is sealed with an o-ring. For the sight gage, installed two 1/8 NPT 45 deg 1/4 inch hose barbs connected with a 1/4 ID clear hose. Awaiting additional fittings to complete the tank. Reference Image 1.
Identified the battery location on the fuselage and measured two 1/2 inch by 1/8 inch steel plates to fit between the firewall and cross-brace. Cut two 3/4 inch by 1/8 inch steel plate 2 1/16 inches long. Grown all cut edges to remove burrs and shape for welding. Drilled a 1/4 inch hole in center of each of the 3/4 inch plates. Positioned the 3/4 inch wide plates with the holes 8 1/8 inches apart measured for the inside edge of each hole. Tac welded each joint and rechecked alignment. Tig welded all joints to complete the base of the battery box. Reference Image 2.
