Brief Description: Fuel Tank Test Fill and Flow Rate
Determined the quantity of fuel the tank will hold by measuring the amount of water required to full the tank. It took 17.5 gal of water to fill the tank.
Tested the flow from the tank by timing the amount of time it took to fill a 2 quart container. It took 75 seconds to fill the container.
Per FAA "Formula for fuel flow rate gravity feed is .55 x engine horsepower x 1.50 = pounds of fuel per hour divided by 60 to get pounds per minute, divided by 6 to get gallons per minute.”
This gives .55 x 150 x 1.5 = 123.75 pounds per hour 123.75 / 60 = 2.06 pounds per minute 2.06 / 6 = 0.34 gal per minute
The tank produces 1 gal every 2.5 minutes or .4 gal per minute.
