Brief Description:  Evaluation of Options for New Tail Wheel Install

Considered the methods for attachment of the spring bar of the tail wheel assembly to the existing rudder post and forward brace. The spring bar extended beyond the forward brace attachment when the position of the tail wheel was matched with the existing one. The rudder post bottom will serve as the point of rotation for the spring bar and will require an attachment to the bar. Because the end of the spring bar is the focus of the down force of the tail wheel additional frame support will be needed to support the assembly. This will require the removal of fabric on the tail area to allow the welding of the frame brace.

Another option is to attach the spring bar at the location of the rudder post brace on the fuselage and shorting the spring bar to keep the tail wheel near the existing location. This is the least disruptive approach for the installation and could be reinforced if necessary.

Using clamps on the rudder post forward brace was briefly considered but didn't lead to a stable connection for horizontal forces.

More thinking may be needed to complete the installation.
