Brief Description: Completed Access Panels on Wing Stubs
Installed the last two anchor nuts on the right wing stub. Completed mounting the right access panel.
Formed a 1/2 inch angle 10 inches long to reinforce the leading edge bottom and pop riveted it in place with four pop rivets. Cut a 10 1/2 by 14 inch rectangle of 0.24 aluminum and fitted it into the opening on the bottom of the wing stub. The forward edge would not fit completely on the left edge. Trimmed the left forward edge by 1/4 by 1 inch long which allowed the access panel to fit in the space. Marked the aft edge 3/4 inch from the end for mounting the cross member. Used the small vice-grips to clamp the cross member in place. Installed a 1/8 inch pop rivet in each end of the cross member. Installed the forward cross member up against the rib supports and pop riveted it in place. Installed a 1/8 inch pop rivet in the bottom of the cross member on each end. Slid the access plate in position and drilled a 3/16 inch hole through the access panel and the forward cross member. Removed the panel and install a anchor nut in the forward cross member. Mounted the access panel and secured it with a 1032 bolt. Aligned the access panel in the designated space and clamp it to the aft cross member with the small vice-grips. Drilled a 3/16 inch hole in the panel and the aft cross member. Removed the panel and installed a anchor nut on the drilled hole. Mounted the panel and clamped it in place with the vice grips. Drilled the second 3/16 hole through the panel and aft cross member. Mounted the anchor nut and secured the panel in place. Drilled the last two 3/16 inch holds in the mid tabs. Removed the panel and installed the two anchor nuts. Bent 1/4 inch of the long edges of the panel up at about 15 degrees. Installed the panel on the left wing stub.
