Brief Description:  Final Installation of The Elevator

Realized that I had to remove the rudder to install the elevator so that was the first task completed today. Decided to paint the control horns on the elevator and rudder before they are installed on the aircraft. Completed the painting of the control horns and also painted the mounting tabs on the cable supports for the vertical stabilizer. Mounted the elevator to the horizontal stabilizer by pining the four hinges. Installed cotter pins in each of the hinge pins on the elevator. Mounted the rudder by pining the top and bottom hinges first. Connected the rudder cables to the rudder horns and tighten the turn buckles. Aligned the center hinge and installed the hinge pin. Loosen the rudder cables turn buckles four turns. Installed three cotter pins into the rudder hinge pins. Cut a two inch leather circle and removed a 1/4 inch hole from the center. Installed the leather circle on the left top elevator cable. Connected the cable to a pull rod which was extended through the horizontal stabilizer. Pulled the cable through the stabilizer and connected it to the top left elevator control horn. Connected the right top elevator cable to the top control horn on the elevator. Connected the bottom right elevator cable to the bottom right control horn on the elevator. The left turn buckle for the bottom elevator cable is missing and if not found will have to be replaced.

Mounted the left side support cables for the vertical stabilizer and to the horizontal stabilizer. Mounted the right side support cables for the vertical stabilizer and to the horizontal stabilizer. The bottom support tubes are to be mounted after they have been painted.
