Brief Description: Finished Forward Cover with Windshields
Laid out the leather cover on the right panel and marked the position of the grommet so that the end of the leather lay near the top of the panel. Drilled a 1/8 inch hole at the marked location 3/4 inch from the edge of the panel. Put a cleo in the first grommet on the right end and into the drilled hole. Put the split 1/2 inch plastic hose onto the edge of the panel. Laid the leather over the hose and marked each of the grommet location on the panel. Measured each of the marked locations 3/4 inches from the edge of the panel. Drilled a 1/8 inch hole at each location and then drilled a 1/4 inch hole. Used a large drill bit to deburr each of the 1/4 inch holes on the panel. Slid a leather lace through the far right grommet and down the length of the panel holes plus six inches. Took the other end of the lace and treaded it through each grommet to the left leaving a loop on the inside. Ran the lace on the back side through the loops and pulled each tight. Tied off the ends on the far left side and applied rubber cement to the knot. Folded the ends back and trimmed the corners. Applied rubber cement to the folded areas and then rolled the leather back under the rubber hose to enclose each end.
Removed the masking tape from the windshields. Tighten the mounting screws on each end of the windshield frames. Drilled each of the three marked locations on the front cover sides with a 11/64 inch drill bit. Installed a #8 by 5/8 brass wood screw in the center hole and into the left windshield base. Installed the second screw on the right side and the third on the left side of the base. Repeated the process for mounting the right side windshield.
This completes the building of all components of this airplane. The final assemble is left for completion.
