Brief Description:  Mounts for the Compression Struts

Measured off the distance from the root end of each spar and marked the first location at 4 inches from the root. The second mark is made at 73.81 inches from the root end. Drilled a 11/32 inch hole at the marked locations in the top tube of the spar. At the root end of the spar the assembly consists of the 5/16 inch bolt then the drag wire tabs then the compression strut insert and the nut tighten all in place. The outer compression strut mount had the addition of a drag cable tab added to the configuration. The main spar root mount required a AN5-27a bolt and the other mount required a AN5-30a bolt. The aft spar root mount required a AN5-22a bolt and the other a AN5-24a bolt.

The main spar and aft spar were laid out on the work table side by side. A W5 pipe was placed over the root mounts and a W6 pipe was placed over the outer mounts. A 3/32 inch cable was installed into the tab at the main spar root using a thimble and brass sleeve. The cable was run across the space between the spars to the aft spar outer mount. The spars were checked for square and the cable cut to fit with excess for adjustments. The cable was again attached to the aft spar at the root and routed across the space between the spars to the aft mount on the main spar. Each cable was pulled tight using ratchet straps through the thimbles sleeves and the spars were checked for square. The cables were adjusted until tight and the spars were square. Each of the sleeves was crimped to specifications holding the spars square. Each of the cable ends were carefully removed at the sleeves using a dremel cutoff wheel and cable protection plate.
