Brief Description:  Window trim ring contued

After the first layup, I will be making a few changes to my procedure. I used 5 layers, four 3 oz. and one 8 oz. cloth. I saturated a 4" wide strip of the five plys with epoxy between two layers of clear food wrap. Cutting the saturated cloth into varying lengths, I overlapped the rough edges by about 1/2" and worked my way around the window.

Cutting the cloth after saturated and still between the food wrap makes for a very clean layup. The food wrap allows me to roll out the epoxy to a full saturation with little excess epoxy.

The result was a little rougher and not as rigid as I had hoped. (Although longer curing might help.)
I should be able to make this piece work, but would like to do better on the next layup.

I will try a stack of two 3 oz. and one 8 oz. by 6" wide strip. I will lay it up with 50% overlap to give 6 total layers with less thickened areas.... Completed with a much better result.

The parts have been rough trimmed. Final trim needs to wait until the canopy top is installed.

Edit (11/13/2019) I did not use these trim rings in the end. I used a material called Ozite that could run up to the edge and be cut leaving a finished edge. I painted the narrow strip of glass edge still showing black.
