Brief Description:  Control linkages

We were out of town for a few days, so not too much progress on the plane for the last week.

I spent most of yesterday on the control linkages. The push/pull tubes are complete for the elevator. As is the idler arm. I drilled the control sticks on the mill. Getting all of the washers in place during the install, is a little bit of a chore. I attached a washer to a piece of painter's tape, slid it into place. Once captured on the bolt, I pulled the tape off leaving the washer in place. It is very cool to be able to move the elevator with the stick!

I discovered I made a small mistake on the brakes. In making the spacers for the brakes, I used the brass tubing instead of the aluminum tube provided for the purpose. The brass tube was supposed to be a bushing for the control sticks. The instructions call out the material based on thickness of wall rather than material type. The aluminum tube is 0.007" thinner wall than the brass. So now I have to order a new bushing from Vans, and wait a week to finish rigging the sticks. Bummer.

I found and purchased a 12" piece of brass tubing of the correct size and thickness to replace the piece I cut up. After installing both control sticks and setting the spacing, I set the neutral point of the elevators per the plans. It only took two additional twists of the rod end to get near perfect.
