Brief Description:  Prep and mount the wheel pants

While waiting for the engine mount bolts and brake mount, I started the Wheel pants prep.

The pants are sanded to match, marked and drilled for the nut plate locations. Since I don't have the left brake mount weldment, I can't mount the wheel. The wheel is required to mount the wheel pant. So for now I can only work on the right side.

Right side nut plates are installed joining the front and rear halves. The rear half is positioned on the wheel, aligned and drilled for the outboard axel extensions. The front half was trimmed around the gear leg and clicoed in place. The full pant is aligned longitudinally, horizontally and rotationally then drilled to the inboard bracket.

Reinforcing glass was added to the attach points. Due to the cold shop temps the glass wasn’t fully cured when I re-drilled the mounting holes and it delaminated. I tore it out, reground the area and re-glassed. A heat lamp for the afternoon and the glass was well cured. While the glass was curing, I was able to trim the gear leg fairings, and install the hinges.

The right rear wheel pant mounting points were floxed in and left with a heat lamp to cure overnight.
