Brief Description:  Priming the tail surfaces

The Epoxy primer from Stewart Systems looks like congealed oatmeal when first opening the part 1 can. To the "oatmeal" you add 18 parts by weight of part 2, a whitish liquid. Before adding any water to reduce the viscosity, I learned the hard way to first mix in the part 2 until smooth.

Per the instructions add 13 parts (of part 1) of distilled water and mix till smooth. Strain through a paint strainer and spray.

I have DeVilbiss primer sprayer with a 1.3 mm orifice. At 30 psi max gun pressure, full fan width and about 1-2 turns of paint flow the quality comes out very nice. A single pass just short of coverage just short of runs (fairly easy since the paint is so thick) and I get an almost orange-peel free surface. Too thin of a coat and it is orange peel city. i.e. lots of sanding to fix.

I am generally sanding with 400 paper to clean up any less than ideal spots or dust. I could probably get away with just a red scotchbrite on most areas, but do both. I find any high rivets or gun dings etc. this way as the primer strips off quickly of anything sticking up in the slightest. I also find all of the bad spots, waviness, pin holes etc. I missed in the prep. I then go back and rework any areas I need to and respray primer.
