Brief Description:  Door Latch fitting

Door latch mechanisms go in next.

I added the Planearound center latch/cam and 180 degrees handle rotation mod. It seems to be good insurance against the possible loss of the door in flight.

There are a lot of steps to this assembly.

First, I fit the Vans fore and aft pin guides to get the hole positions. Those come off and the Planearound extended blocks are fitted.

Then back to the plans (sort of) for the center latch.
Sort of, because the longer gear racks don’t fit into the pocket for hole marking. (Vans uses the short cut offs for that normally)
Worked my way around that. Had to add an extra hole to the arm pocket in the door since the longer rack for the front pin wouldn't retract without hitting the elbow recess. This could have been avoided by shortening the rack to 4 1/2", moving the handle forward a little in the pocket and deleting the rivet Vans instructed to place for an overtravel stop. (Next airplane!!)

Fitting the forward pin and rack, I fit everything together, marked the fully retracted position then took it all apart. I had to cut off the forward pin about 1/2" to allow it to retract fully.

Next, I assembled the main rear latch rack, mid pushrod and Planearound rack and used the position of the latch with the front pin extended to position the Planearound gear box. It ended up 1/2 " further back than the Planearound plans indicate. Anyone following this, make sure and mark the location of the pin insertion hole for the snap in pin to join the cam rack and middle pushrod. Cut the hole to insert the Planearound cam gear box.
