Brief Description:  IP center stack and console continued

I continued working on the plugs for the IP/center and console. I had planned to glass the plugs and use the layup smoothing as needed etc.. I have decided to make another mold, then layup from there. Perhaps a second try at resin infusion. I talked today with a local fiberglass expert (where I purchase supplies) and showed him pics of the overhead. He thought it was a very successful effort for a first try and encouraged me to use the process again. He gave me several tips to shorten and improve the process.

Things I need to do better. 1. I mixed 6 small batches of resin last time to infuse the part. He recomends 2 at most. One big one to fill the part. A second smaller one if needed. 2. I left the pump on all night while the resin cured. He recomends turning the pump off and closing the ports as soon as the extra resin in the cup jells. 3. He recomends waxing 5-6 coats and not using PVA for parting. With just wax, I can preposition the glass with 77 spray adhesive and not worry about the PVA lifting. 4. Part of number one, I let two bubbles of air in while working with th esmaller pots of resin creating voids so I need to clamp the feed line to the side. 5. Use two layers of 6 oz., 2 layers of 10 oz., two more layers of 6 oz. to finish rather than all 6 oz. cloth.

The plugs got a skim coat of Bondo over the epoxy to smooth everything. I wet sanded (keeps the sand paper from loading up) with 150, wash and let dry, spray wiith automotive high build primer. Identify spots that need attention and do it all again. One more trip around the block and I will be ready to lay up the mold.

Well, it was really about 5 more trips around the block. Each one getting better. Now they are ready to coat with PVA and mold.
