With the foam shape very close to what I think I want, I covered the plug with a mix of 50/50 epoxy an micro ballons to harden the surface.
The next step is to form the recesses where inserts will fit. I want flush inserts rather than recessed so I am laminating 1/8"lite ply (poplar modeling plywood) to the top surface with cutouts for the inserts that will hold all of the accessories and provide access. I really like panel joints to be flush with slightly radiused edges. The thin ply should give me that affect.
Now comes the slow process of smothing. I really have a tough time maintaining enthusiasim for fiberglass work. Since it takes up to two days between sanding coats of micro, I will likely work on other things as this slowley comes together.
