Brief Description:  firewall assembly

Putting the fire wall aft strucyure together is like a Chinese puzzle. With a little bit of filing everything fit. As is typical. assemble, drill, dis-assemble, dimple, clean and prime.

Riviting is easy as all of the rivets are easy to get to. A few were right next to edges that blocked the gun from one side. So changing out the set from the back rivet set to the flush set and comming at it from the other side was in order. I only had to drill out one rivet where I let off pressure on the gun one hit too early and smilyed the head....dohh! I did mess up and install/drill out 3 rivets in the upper right angle bracket that were supposed to be left out for a few steps, no biggie as all drilled out easily.

There are a few rivets that are too close to the flange of the firewall to get a dimple die to. Van's suggests modifying the die or using a rivet. I opted to try a rivet. If that didn't work I could always modify the die. Placing the female die in my die support/bucking bar thing, placing that under the hole to be dimpled, inserting a short rivet (2.5 mm so it wouldn't bottom out in the die), and setting with a small flush set worked perfectly. Nice dimple, no problem.
