Brief Description:  Elevator Counterweight Part 4

I picked up the coffee can using a pair of vice grips at the top & channel locks at the bottom. I had put a crimp in the lip of the can to form a spout. I then poured the lead into the forms and was greeted with what you would expect – the smell of burning wood. After cooling for a couple of hours I removed the wood forms and revealed some nicely formed counter-weights. The brown lines on the bottom edge of the elevator are just singed wood I need to remove. These weights are too heavy and will have to be filed down for the proper counter balance. Better to have too much than too little. Recasting would involve removing all the lead and starting over. My sources tell me that one pound six inches behind the hinge for Stewarts and seven inches for poly-fiber is what you will need to shoot for.
