Brief Description:  First Engine Start

Had to wait for all the bad weather to clear out so I could get to hangar and accomplish the first engine start. Had a friend come out and assist. His job was to watch for leaks and any other problems. Primed fuel pumps by filling lines before inserting them in fuel container. Fuel pump ran for about 20 seconds before it slowed down and sounded like it was pumping. I turned the key to start and the engine came to life. However it was a short life since it quit after about 15 seconds. I believe there was air in the line which caused this. So once more I turned on the fuel pump and turned key to start position. Once again engine came to life and this time it continued to run. Ran engine for about six minutes. Long enough to get oil temperature in the green and all other engine parameters were reading normal with the exception of the fuel pressure. I will have to call UL and find out about this. Both coils seemed to operate correctly. At 1500 RPMs in the both position, switching to L or R coil, they each read 1460 to 1470. Well within the 5% allowable difference. No leaks were encountered and engine was shutdown by switching off ECU and then turning starter switch to off. Another MIlestone!! Not to get the wings in place. That should louds of fun!!?? Now that I know engine is running ok, I will get a video of it in the next couple of weeks. However I have to figure out how to put a video into this log.
