Brief Description:  Tip Rib Brackets

Light day today - I "slept in" until 0630. The only task I had planned was the fabrication and assembly of the cleverly named "L" Angle in the Photo Assembly Guides. The "L" Angle is shipped to the builder as a 4 foot long piece of aluminium, about 1.5 inches wide bent into a 90 degree angle. As the builder, I was to fabricate 4 x 75mm brackets from this. For those of you who are metric challenged, that's 4 x 3 inch long brackets. I hope the extra 3 feet of "L" Angle isn't an indication of Zenith's confidence in my abilities!

The process was straightforward. 1. Mark a 75mm line, 2. Cut beyond the line a bit (just in case the tin snips get away from me), 3. Trim off the excess, and 4. File it back into a shape that matches the one in Zenith's Photo Assembly Guide after mangling it with the tin snips. I'm proud to say I have over 2 feet of "L" Angle remaining.

Armed with 4 nearly perfect brackets, the hard part begins. Each of the 4 brackets clamps to the end of the 2200mm long (7.5 feet) horizontal stabilizer spars (front and rear). When the brackets are in the proper position, the distance between them is 2205mm. Needless to say, I walked that 7.5 foot long distance a whole lot - unclamping, moving a smidgen, reclamping - before achieving the 2205mm goal. A quick application of a #40 drill bit, a couple of clecoes, and voila! Horizontal Stabilizer skeleton complete!
