Brief Description:  Nose Rib Alignment

With the top and bottom rear skins drilled out and attached, my attention turned to the nose skin. Step one, as always, is to reconfirm the wing is level and aligned. The next step is to reattach the nose ribs to confirm their alignment. At this point, I was reminded that my #3 nose rib was poorly installed - something I was intending to replace. No time like the present so I took the #6 nose rib from the right wing (which I won't need for a few weeks!) and trimmed it up to fit into my #3 left wing position.

After all the nose ribs were in place, I marked the precise leading edge of each rib. This is done in one of several ways. Initially, I placed a combination square on a stable, level surface (2' x 2' square steel pipe), and determined the vertical tangent point at the front of each rib (see image 3). I double checked these marks by the next method: Placing the square along the bottom of the nose rib (which is flat near its aft end) and seeing where the 90 degree part of the square touches the nose. Using either method, the leading edge measured out to be the same spot. Good to go.
