Brief Description:  Bell Crank Channels and Spar Tip L Angles

Today I performed some subassembly on RR#7 (left & right) and the two Wing Spar Tips.

The 2 RR#7s hold the bellcranks that help push/pull the left & right ailerons. Each bellcrank is attached to the outside of it's respective RR#7 between the two lightening holes (the big curcular holes) in the rib web. The bellcrank channel provides additional structure to the rib for holding the belcrank assembly and to withstand the tension on the aileron control cables. Today I fit the channels to the existing,pre-drilled pilot holes, drilled out pilot holes in the channel and updrilled everything to the A5 rivet size.

The spar tips attach to the outboard end of each wing main spar. In addition to establishing the final spar length, the 45 degree angle of the spar tip serves as the foundation for its Hoerner Wingtips. The Hoerner tips focus the wintip vortices away from the the upper wing surface resulting in reduced drag and longer effective wingspan than a similar wing with a traditional rounded wingtip.
