Brief Description:  Moved to Garage - Built New Workbench

Today I began moving out of the basement to begin work in the garage. The main task was to create a new work bench. At the beginning of this project, I had planned to build a 4' x 6' table in the basement and move it to the garage when I moved there and build a second, identical table to have a 4' x 12' workspace (Zenith recommended). Since receiving the wing kit, I've decided to take the base of the wing kit shipping crate (3.5' x 12.5') add a couple of additional cross members to it, attach 3 x sawhorses to the bottom, then cover it all with 3/4" finished plywood sheets. The result is the 4' x 14' table you see in the pictures below. The table is structurally true - but my garage floor is sloped outward (about 1/3 bubble on a level), so I'll be using steel beams and shims judiciously to keep things level.

I also took the opportunity to join the spar cap (the structure that affixes the wings to the fuselage) to the two wing main spars. It was good to see the 12 predrilled bolt holes line up between the 2 wings and the spar cap. Note that in these pictures the assembly is lying flat on the table. The spars and spar cap actually stand "on edge" when assembled in the aircraft. This is probably the last time these three pieces will be assembled until I install the finished wings into the finished fuselage at an airport at the very end of the build.

I'm pretty sure the entire airplane's NOT going to fit in the garage!
