Brief Description:  Forward Top Skin Test Installation

Reinstalled the forward top skin to check out the fit and determine if the slick tape I installed on the inside of the side cover protected the side of the forward top skin from scratches. It does.

This was also a test for reinstalling the forward top skin with the canopy installed - something I had not tried before today. I intentionally went "off plans" to have a removable forward top skin to assure future easy access to the avionics bay. The plans have you rivet the top skin in place which was a little too permanent for me. As proof in the pictures below, the top skin can be reinstalled with the canopy already in place, but of course it wasn't easy. The short story is the canopy must be propped partially closed in order to slide the top skin in from the front. Once this was figured out, it's a fairly straighforward job.

Once the top skin was reinstalled, I reinstalled the cowling to make sure everything still fits (I had also re-installed the engine baffles) - it's all still good. Just in time to go on vacation for a few weeks.
