Brief Description:  Dynon USB Port Extension Installation

Decided to install a USB extension for the Dynon Skyview USB ports. Out-of-the-box, the Dynon has 2 ports on its rear panel and an additional port sticking out of one of the custom cables they provide. In order to make the two rear USB ports more accessible, I purchased a dual port USB extension designed to fit in a car or boat instrument panel.

Installation was surprisingly easy. After measuring the diameter of the extension body to determine hole size (1 1/64"), I drilled a starter hole, then expanded it using a series of step drills until I reached the 1" hole size. I then sanded out the hole using a Dremel drum sander for the last 1/64th of an inch for a nice fit. After that it was a simple matter of pulling the cables through the hole, seating the adapter flange against the instrument panel, and snugging the adapter against the panel using a large, flanged nut on the opposite (forward) side of the panel.
