Brief Description:  Elevator Trim Wiring Finished - Begin Aileron

Completed the elevator trim wiring by installing a female 9-pin D-sub to the cable running out of the elevator. This involved carrying the elevator out of the basement to the garage, cutting its 5-wire cable to a more appropriate length, and wiring a D-sub onto the trimmed cable.

When I trimmed back the tezfel covering over the wires in the cable, I was presented with 5 different colored wires from the Ray Allen assembly instructions. I know I had tested the trim motor when I first installed it and figured I had some sort of method for translating between the wires, but I had completely forgotten where I might have written that down! Luckily, good habit patterns saved the day - I finally remembered to examine the end of the excess wiring cable I had removed and there they were: the 5 wires, each with a label I had atached to them matching each wire's color to the color for the Ray Allen systems. After that it was a simple matter to assemble and test the trim switch (hatswitch in the stick grip), trim relay, trim indicators, and trim motor. Everything works as advertised.

I also drilled a hole into the shiny side of the plane just forward of the left wing rear spar attach plate, which coincidentally is where the aileron trim wire from the servo comes out of the wing into the wing root. I assembled a male 9-pin D-sub onto the end of the aileron servo wire cable that leads from the stick/indicators/relay. I will add a female D-sub connector to the wire in the wing root in the future - a job i'm not looking forward to as I will have to build the assembly standing on a ladder in my garage where the wing hangs from the ceiling!
